Shape & profile

A snowboard's outline defines many of its characteristics, from how it turns or floats in powder to its performance riding switch. Shape affects everything from the width and taper of the nose and tail, to the position of the stance relative to the board's center.

Shape image

[Shape]

Directional

Purpose-built to perform in one direction with a longer nose, shorter tail and setback stance that optimize float, maneuverability and edge power. Designed for riders who prioritize performance on groomers, variable terrain and in the backcountry over switch or freestyle riding.

[Taper]

High Tapered

Our most accentuated taper, reserved for powder-focused shapes where float and maneuverability in deep snow are the priority. The wider nose plows through soft snow while the narrower tail sinks naturally. Any shape with more than 15mm of taper between the nose and tail.

Features & construction

100% of our adult models feature high-end materials, construction technologies and responsible manufacturing processes. We accept no compromises in producing the most durable and responsibly produced snowboarding gear. Learn more by checking out our Materials Library

[C0re]

Boost Surf Core

Advanced triple-density full wood core made from responsibly harvested Bamboo, Paulownia and Poplar. Bamboo stringers along the sidecut enhance durability, edge response and torsional stiffness, while the Paulownia keeps the core light and damp.

[Fibers]

Biax Fiberglass

Biaxial fiberglass laminate made with a dual-layer, dual-directional construction that delivers a forgiving yet snappy board feel with a mid-soft torsional flex and quick energy transfer.

[Stringer]

Bcomp Carbon Flax Stringer

Bcomp Carbon / Flax stringers offer the perfect performance balance as the carbon provides crazy pop and the flax sucks up chatter and reduces CO₂ emissions compared to a full carbon stringer. Developed in collaboration with the Swiss engineering firm Bcomp.

[T0psheet]

Premium Topsheet

Durable and scratch resistant premium topsheet engineered to endure rigorous daily use in extreme conditions.

[Base]

Sintered 8000 Base

Premium sintered base material that’s ultra fast, highly wax absorbent, easy to repair and proven to be one of the most durable and long lasting base materials in the industry.

Wend Natural Wax

All Jones snowboards come factory waxed with WEND natural wax so they’re ready to shred straight out of the shop.

[Resin]

Bio Resin

A bio-based epoxy made with 27% plant-based carbon that reduces CO₂ emissions by 33% compared to conventional petroleum-based epoxy. Sourced from plant-based industrial by-products, its unmatched bonding properties deliver industry leading durability and performance.

[Edges]

Recycled ABS

Recycled ABS sidewalls with a rounded finish that are engineered to enhance durability by reducing topsheet chipping and impact damage.

Recycled edges

Bombproof steel edges made from recycled German steel, engineered for maximum strength and long-lasting durability.

I love it

Originaly an hardbooter (47 years old with over 20 years in french competitions), I love my storm chaser : It's like a slalom-special board, vivacity, hook, it turn's so well, and what a feeling in the powder, just magic.
A great board.
Thanks Jeremy for have made it realty.

Will never look back

Since buying my ultracraft I have realised the ease and power in the shortened tail. Makes powder days and even groomers for that fact so much more fun

Snow weapon of choice!

The Ultracraft has become my resort board of choice. Fast and stable on the groomers yet soft and floaty on the pow...well done Jeremy!

Stormchaser, it's the only way

The board is beautiful! Nothing feels better then laying down some carves on groomer. Handles like a rally car in the trees. But when it's pow pow, your life will never be the same.

The only down fall- the fish tail is a little prone to cracking. I have 2 stormchaser( the 2018 blue and 2019 yellow). At high speed deep carving on groomers both fins have cracked, on both boards.

I could switch to the mind expand and eliminate the problems. But damn I love the stormchaser

That's one well ridden Storm Chaser! Stoked to see you putting it to work!

Don't ever stop making this board, please!

Best snowboard I've ridden. At 160lbs, 5'8", the 150cm has been a dream to ride in deep snow, glades, tight trees, and moguls. It turns effortlessly almost just by thinking. It's also very predictable and doesn't surprise you with unexpected grabbing or biting. Slash and turn, surfy, and plain fun, it's my favourite board.

When you get the feel for carving the board, it really goes. I found I have to set the edge and then weight it appropriately to get a carve going and when I do, it puts in a really tight carve (more than you initially expect). The key is to not put in more effort and to let the board do the work. Otherwise, the surf nature kicks in and you'll get into a more slashy, surfy turn. Set it on the edge and let the board do the work though and it's impressive.

Surprisingly, despite being a surf shape, it does really well on steeps. I had full confidence on steep double blacks even in variable snow. Other shapes are perhaps more at home on crusty steep stuff, but I didn't feel held back. For my riding style (prefer nimble turns), I found it inspired confidence on steeps because I had no concerns at all about being able to make a very fast turn to control speed. I actually find I rely much less on jump turns when I'm on the Mind Expander.

It's also fast, which surprised me. My skier friends have noted that too. I think that has more to do with the Jones base quality than anything.

I enjoy this board so much that if Jones ever says they'll discontinue it, I'll buy a back up one so I still have one after I wear out my current board.

Hi Greg, thank you so much for your fantastic review!
We're thrilled to hear how much you enjoy the Mind Expander Snowboard and that it performs so well across different terrains and styles. Your enthusiasm truly means a lot to us.
Happy riding, and we hope the board continues to inspire your adventures!

Please bring back the full rocker profile of twin version

Please, please bring back the full rocker profile of the Mind Expander. I love how the rocker profile feels so surfy under my feet, especially in tight terrain, trees, etc.
I’m a huge fan of the Mind Expander, I currently have a few Mind Expander boards set up the twin, split board, and the ultra. As well as a secondhand one I bought with the full rocker as a back up for when mine dies

Outstanding board, Too narrow.

This is an amazing board. It does everything. Any place, any conditions. Rolls edge to edge like a surfboard. It's just too narrow. Give us a 154 wide option please!

Hi Snowbound,

We're stoked you think the Mind Expander is an amazing, surfy board for all conditions. We've heard your request for a 154 Wide option and will pass that along to our product team for future consideration!

Make Mind Expander Great Again

The Old Mind Expander (Full Rocker) was a niche powder board that gave an experience that justified its name. Now that its cambered, I dont really see why it exists. Why get this over the Stratos? Its just redundant.
Bring back the rocker ME and give this board the glory it deserves as an insane Pow Stick

Hi Powder Guy,

We appreciate your honest take on the transition to a camber profile for the Mind Expander. We've noted your request to bring back the full rocker version and will share your feedback with our product developers.

Fun board with great feeling on the mountain, but

Fun board with great feeling on the mountain, but..
Really poor build quality, after just 1 season it looks as beaten up as my 4+ seasons Burton. Already falling apart.
Using recycled materials to build a product that lasts nothing is far from sustainable (one of the marketing points).
Such a shame, because otherwise it would be a great board.

Hello Alex,

We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback on the Mind Expander and glad to see you've enjoyed the feeling. However, we are truly sorry and concerned to hear about the build quality. We take your points about sustainability seriously and have noted your comments to share directly with our product and materials team immediately for review. We are reaching out privately via email to address the issue with your board and see what we can do to make things right.

Consider my mind expanded

After many nights watching reviews, scouring top 5 lists, and cruising reddit forums I was ready to hit the buy button on the Mind Expander. 166W to be exact paired with the Meteorite Surf bindings. I’m 6’4” @ 250lbs. The board showed up at my doorstep quickly and safely. The board looked great and the finish was exactly what I expected. Jones knows what they are doing, no surprise.

I got things dialed and was able to get out that following weekend for a day on some groomed hardpack via 30deg bluebird day. Coming from 15+ years on a heavily cambered freeride board (167cm) I knew there would some getting used to the new feel. I have to say the first day took some patience on the Mind Expander. The length and stiffness felt great, the base had good glide, and it felt like a great balance of damp/lively. But I just couldn't quite get it to hold an edge like my old board. I chalked it up to relearning the limits and intended ride experience of the board, change in sidecut/camber profile, and the rather hard snow conditions.

Fast forward 2 weeks later, my kids and I took a spring break trip up to the North Shore in MN. I brought the Mind Expander and my old board to give a proper side by side. Day 2 of our trip we had a huge storm come across Lake Superior and dump 13”+. We rode through the storm that day AND rode the following day on fresh tracks for the first half of the day. The Mind Expander completely came to life. The surfy feel on top of fresh snow was SOOOO much more fun than my kinda twitchy old board. Super easy edge to edge turns, excellent float in the deep wet snow, damp and stiff enough to cut through push piles and clumps plus support my weight which exceeds the top end of the spectrum a bit. I’m sold on the surf style ride feel and the Mind Expander. Excited to get it out to some dry powder and off piste riding next season and really get comfortable with the playfulness. Well done Jones team!

Nice all-around board

Really nice board. Handels well on a powder day, great for tree riding, and also carves up the groomers. I gave it a 4 star only because it chatters for those dust on crust days. Great local company and they are nice to their customers.

Rides amazing.
Maneuverability is great and love the ability to slash turns and the board floats great on the powder

Old School Riders Dream Sled

This board rides exactly as described. Do not buy this board if you bomb groomers and ride a wider stance and do not buy this board if you like to carve as this board is a "slarve" board on hard pack. Obviously this is not a freestyle/freeride board. It prefers to cruise the side hits and slash crud Bob Marley style instead of old school NOFX. Watch some old videos of Craig Kelly. If that's your style of riding then get this board because I'm 55 and this is the closest thing to the magic boards of old and very close to the feel of the Mike Estes pro model Barfoot from the early 90s. This was the best all around snowboard I have ever ridden from deep pow to bumps to steep trees. I rode it for a couple of seasons at A Basin and the surrounding backcountry in the early 90s. The Mind Expander is so close to the vibe of that board and those times. It's very nimble in trees and bumps and on steeps but comes alive in pow. It loves to feel a turn through the entire rail from initiation to out the tail. And if your a surfer it delivers that classic "finishing" feel of throwing some tail.

LIFE-CHANGING

The women's mind expander changed my life. Floaty, whippy, FUN! Great for ripping open lines and still does great in tight trees.

I have been out just

I have been out just once with my new Mind Expander, on a 50F spring day. The snow was soft and the board is very "surfy". Definitely a new way of riding and a welcome change. The name of the board says it all. Stay away from shaded spots - it doesn't bite well on ice.

She's a Beaut Clark

I love this board but it does come with some exceptions. I go fast and so does the Mind Expander. When one does so in Pow, it is bliss. Best board in the line-up. When one goes fast in cordoroy, the tail washes and you gotta pay attention. It's a redeemable quality but you do need to keep an eye on your speed. Overall, she's a good daily driver and a dream on a pow day. Would buy again. See splitboard review...
